Mary Jo Small Fellowships
The Society for Values in Higher Education is committed to mentoring the work of young scholars and providing them with the opportunity to learn more about the SVHE. To this end, we annually provide funding for at least two early career scholars to attend our annual meeting. We do this through our Mary Jo Small Fellowship program.
The fellowship includes:
* One year membership in SVHE commencing with the first SVHE annual meeting and expiring at the end of the next fiscal year.
* Registration fee and room and board for our Annual Meeting
* Travel allowance of at least $300, possibly more.
* Waiver of registration fees for a partner/family member/colleague (room and board fees would apply to this person).
Nominations of early career faculty can be by self or others. Review of nominations will begin on February 15th and continue until all slots are filled. Please send current CV to email@example.com.
Resolution of Appreciation and Gratitude
for the life of
Mary Jo Small and Her Contributions
Society for Values in Higher Education
Mary Jo Small's leadership, wisdom, and humor sparked Fellows Meetings over many years. Furthermore, her support of SVHE projects helped us implement our goals and assured that they were thoughtfully conceived, developed, and executed. We will miss her, and are grateful for the significant bequest from her estate, which we will use to keep her name and memory alive.
We, therefore, would like to honor the memory of Mary Jo Small by creating at least two fellowships, commencing 2010, to be funded by the bequest which she left to the Society. These fellowships will be awarded to college teachers early in their careers and will pay for their registration, room, and board at the SVHE summer meeting. To the extent it is possible to preserve the bequest for future recipients, consideration will be given to supporting travel and/or the attendance of family.
The fellowship recipients will be known as "The Mary Jo Small Fellows" and will be informed of Mary Jo's legacy. In the future, the Board will also look for other ways to use the bequest to enhance the Society's outreach to classroom teaching, since this is a mission that was dear to her heart.
